«Conversation piece», es un libro-disco de David Bowie con 5 CDs y 120 páginas que ilustran el desarrollo artístico de esta leyenda de la música, entre los años 1968 y 1969, a través de sus demos caseros, sesiones de radio de la BBC, grabaciones de estudio junto a John ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson y el grupo de música experimental y mimo, Feathers.
Esta edición especial, celebra también los 50 años del lanzamiento del sencillo, «Space oddity», y del segundo álbum de David Bowie (de título homónimo, conocido como «Space oddity»).
En julio se estrenó el nuevo video de «Space oddity», que presenta imágenes nunca antes publicadas de David Bowie interpretando la canción, en su concierto de cumpleaños número 50 en el Madison Square Garden en 1997.
Está dirigido por Tim Pope e incluye imágenes filmadas y dirigidas por Edouard Lock, el fundador y coreógrafo del ballet de Montreal, compañía La La La Human Steps, para la presentación en pantalla de la gira de «Bowie’s Sound & Vision» de 1990.
Se incluyen doce grabaciones / demos inéditos de ese período, así como una nueva mezcla del álbum «Space oddity» de su productor y colaborador habitual, Tony Visconti.
